Archive for the ‘Meme’ Category

July 22, 2008

I have seen this around on several people’s blog’s lately and thought I would jump in and play too. I definitely could use a smile or two 😉

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn’t matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It’s actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I’ll assume you’re playing the game and I’ll come to your blog and leave one about you.

6 Facts

May 12, 2008

So, I was tagged by Timber and sort of tagged by Sariah, so I contemplated for a while about whether or not I would follow the meme, and I decided that since I had no better plans for my blog today, I would try it. I am with Sariah though, I don’t want to bother tagging anyone so if you would like to play, then play…

1. I hate make-up. Now, I don’t mind putting a little base, eye liner, mascera, and if it is a special occasion some light lip stick. Even then, I reserve all of that for Sunday or when I am going out somewhere special. Not just to the grocery store, but like out to dinner with SH. Which I don’t understand about myself. I am willing to dress up and put on make up for him, but only when he takes me out on the town… hmmmm perhaps I should explore this one further.

2. I basically like two soups in my entire soup experience. Tomato is the one of choice when I am sick or just needing comfort food, the other acceptable one is Olive Garden’s Pasta Frigole soup, but even that has a tomato base. There are two strange things about the fact that I love tomato soup. One, I can’t stand tomatoes. BLECH! and Two, SH loves all soups except those two I have just now listed.

3. The first time I tried to ski, I went to a beginning class. Then I decided that I needed to go up to the top of the mountain and ski down because I knew everything. I didn’t understand how important it was to know how to stop and turn, I could snowplow and that was it. Anyway, I took so long on the run, falling every few feet, and eventually twisting my ankle, that the ski patrol people ended up taking me down the mountain on the back of a snowmobile. Needless to say, I needed more lessons.

4. I am a book addict. When I was a teenager, my mom would take away my library card as a punishment. My problem is that when I have a good book going, the rest of the world does not exist. If I have to stop reading in a good part I get seriously irritated. I hold it in for the most part because I know that it is my fault for being so sucked in. It isn’t her fault that L needs lunch, I am trying to become better at putting the book down.

5. My room has to be completely dark or I can’t sleep. SH likes to tease me about this strange fact. My clock rests on it’s face because it glows too brightly, the stereo is covered with a thick towel at night because it has a LED screen, and most of all the fan that we use at night has electrical tape over the little red light mounted on the top to show that it is on and functioning. I have blackout curtains that have to be situated perfectly because as you know, that darn moon is just too bright. Blinds do not cut it people. Pure darkness is the only thing that works.

6. I love musicals. Something about the combination of acting and music just calls to me. Has since I learned what a musical was back in high school. I would go to a musical every weekend if I could, old favorites, classics, new ideas, I love them all. Except for maybe Cats, I just don’t have much use for that one, there is only one redeemable song in that musical and even then “Memory” gets on my nerves after a while. Les Miserables is my favorite but give me Wicked or Spamalot and you have a new friend on your hands. Anyone want to give me a month in New York with unlimited Broadway access? I could eat McDonalds the whole trip, sleep in a horrible cheap hotel, but give me musicals and I would be in heaven.

So there you have it folks, 6 random facts that you may or may not have wanted to know about me. It was actually harder than I expected to come up with 6 things that not many people would know about me…

Last book countdown.

July 17, 2007

I can’t wait till the last Harry Potter book comes out this weekend!  I have it on pre-order from Amazon, where I am guaranteed that it will be here on Saturday.  However, I know the local UPS driver and he hasn’t been asked to work Saturday, so I am starting to get nervous.  If they send it through the regular mail as they did a few years ago, I will also be in trouble because my post office is not open on Saturdays, (Thank you yet again small town living).  They come in long enough to stuff the note in my box saying that I have a package, but I can’t pick it up that day no matter what.  I wonder if that little note in my box will count as delivery.  I would so rather have the book on Saturday than a free book on Monday.  But that’s me.

On to more pleasant things.  Karen in all of her awesomeness, found a newspaper article that fits with the Harry Potter countdown, so I am stealing it, pretending that it is a blog meme so as to join the fun.  Here goes:

1. How did you get into Harry Potter?

I had been married for almost a year when I finally decided to read Harry Potter. I had heard that my sister-in-law read it for a book club she was in. I then read about how many of the public libraries and schools were trying to ban the book from the shelves because it was inappropriate, which of course made it so we had to read it. Sultry husband bought the book for himself to read. At that time I had never read a fantasy book. He started reading the book on his own and he seemed to enjoy it so I stole it to try out a few chapters. I was hooked! We made the decision to read it out loud together instead of alone. That way we had the added bonus of not having to argue over whose turn it was to read. We have read each new HP book together. Well, up till book 6 where I stupidly said I wanted to read it on my own so I could read it faster. I majorly regretted that decision, so we are going back to the way things should have been. We are reading book 7 out loud again so we can savor the entire thing together.

2. How important is Harry Potter to literary and pop culture?

Harry Potter is changing pop culture completely in my opinion.  Reading is back in style, kids are excited about a literary character again.  I have also noticed an outbreak of young fantasy books on the shelves.  Others are joining the race and kids are only going to benefit from more material to get excited about.

3. Describe your favourite moment thus far.

After much discussion with SH over our favorite parts, I have decided that I loved when Dumbledore refused to bow down to the ministry of magic in book 5.  He says that he has no intention of coming quietly, and becomes a bit of a rebel because he believes in his cause.  The fact that he is powerful enough to escape to fight again another day.  It was completely surprising and out of character for Dumbledore, and thus my favorite moment.

4. What character do you most relate to, and why?

Truthfully, I relate to Ginny Weasley.  She was the younger sister, forgotten and ignored for so long.  Yet she was powerful and important in her own right.  I found myself rooting for her from book one when she couldn’t even speak to Harry.  I just enjoy rooting for the underdog.  Probably why I loved watching Harry squirm in book 6 while she was dating other guys.

5. How do you think the series should end?

Harry needs to live and marry Ginny.  Ron and Hermionie need to get together finally.  Oh, and Voldemort needs to die by the hand of Harry and the gang.

Real Mom’s…

March 21, 2007

I have to say that when Alyson tagged me, I was elated!  It is my first tag ever!  Now, before all of you realize how pathetic that sounds, I will move on. 🙂

Real Mom’s finish what the kids start.  My kids wanted to build a sand castle, but lost interest in about five minutes.  Therefore, I had to step in and finish it for them.  Isn’t it brilliant?

Real Mom’s

Now it is my turn.  I tag Timber, Heather, Julia, and Karen. 🙂 have fun girls!  I actually liked this one.

Getting to know me. A terribly stolen post.

January 20, 2007

As I stated in the comments to Karen’s blog, I was thinking all day about how much I wanted to post.  I was trying and thinking but I could not come up with a topic for the life of me.  Perhaps it was because I was helping Sultry Husband prepare to take the local boy scout troop on a winter camp.  Those who know SH may begin to laugh now.  I hope they all survive the night.

1. What time did you get up this morning?

7:30 am after Sultry Husband allowed me an extra hour and a half. Yes, my kids were up at 6am.  bleh.

2. Diamonds or pearls?

Hmmm, depends on what it is on. I love my diamond ring and I wear diamond knock off earings, but I would die to have a real pearl necklace….

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?

I saw Happy Feet with my husband and kids… Before Christmas, and the kids still talk about it.

4. What’s your favourite TV show?

I have to admit that last season it would have been a no brainer.  I love to watch Grey’s Anatomy.  However, since they are on thursday nights this season, I have not watched a single one… I suppose that second place would go to Ugly Betty… oh wait, its on thursday nights as well! (can you tell I am bitter?)

5. What did you have for breakfast this morning?

I was so busy getting SH ready for winter camp I forgot to eat.  I didn’t remember till after he had left at about 1:00 pm.  Oops.

6. What’s your favourite cuisine?

7. What foods do you dislike?

SH would ask how much room I am allowed for this one.  I grew up never thinking of myself as a picky eater.  Here is my list.  Any seafood is out, any oriental food is bleh.  I can’t stand some flavors, like curry… ewwwww!  It would probably be easier to list the things that I do like.  Perhaps another time 🙂  On the up side, at least I am the one who makes dinner, so I choose the menu!

8. What is your favourite chip flavour?

Plain old ruffled potato chips.  I used to love sour cream and onion flavor, but I am pretty much done with that one.

9. What’s your favourite CD at the moment?

My older sister gave me one of her cast off CD’s a while back.  I never listened to it.  I then ran across it a few months ago and found my new favorite theme song.  The CD is of Tori Amos and the song is Happy Phantom.

10. What kind of car do you drive?

Chevy cavalier.  Although we are buying a new car the second our Idaho house sells.  We are looking for a Chevy Trailblazer or Hyundai Santafe.  With three rows and four wheel drive, for under $10,000.  I am not picky.  Really.

11. Favourite sandwich?

I hate sandwiches.  They are always boring.  I do like a nice Philly Steak and Cheese though.  But those are hard to come by out here in the desert.

12. What characteristics do you despise?

When someone is just plain mean.  Or manipulative, thats up there on my no no list as well.

13. What is your favourite type of clothing?

I like to be comfortable, but I also like to be pretty.  I remember reading somewhere in a marriage counsling book that “your husband is surrounded by beautiful, professional looking women every day.  Why would he want to come home to a slob?”

It pretty much stuck with me.  I don’t spend hours in the bathroom getting ready, but I don’t sit around in my pajamas either.

14. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation?

Europe.  Especially Italy, but all of Europe.

15. What colour is your bathroom?

We are renters at the moment so they are both boring white.  I have Red bathmats and Navy towels in one.  The other has Deep Purple bathmats and a shower curtain with huge horses on it.  My daughter M picked that one out.

16. Favourite brand of clothing?

I am not really a name brand person.  If it fits and is flattering, I am happy with whomever created the item.

18. Favourite time of the day?

8pm.  My kids are in bed, and I am not yet to tired to think.

19. What was your most memorable birthday?

I was turning 17. I was on a bus, in the middle of the night with my orchestra.  We were going to San Francisco on a tour.  I jumped up at the stroke of midnight and shouted “GUESS WHAT EVERYONE, IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!” I did it over and over again till they finally sang to me, just to shut me up so they could sleep.  For the next four years, I was never home on my birthday.  What is it with the first week of May?  Why do orchestra’s always go on tour?!

20. Where were you born?

Salt Lake City, Utah.

21. Favourite sport to watch?

If it is live, I can stand about any sport.  I do really enjoy pretty much every event in the winter olympics though.

[eliminated two irrelevant questions- Thanks Karen, for saving me from stupid questions :-)]

24. What fabric detergent do you use?

Whatever I can find that is within my budget.  Right now it is “Sun”.

25. Were you named after anyone?

My name is April.  I was born in May.  I am told that they named me April because they did not want to name me after my great aunt May.  So I guess I was NOT named after her heh.

26. Do you wish on stars?

When my kids are with me yes.

27. When did you last cry?

When I realized that yet again, I am not pregnant.

29. If you were another person, would you be friends with you?

30. Are you a daredevil?

Depends on the definition of daredevil.  Would I ever leap out of a plane?  No.  Do I seek out amusment parks for their wild rides, the scarier the better? Yes, totally!

31. How do you release anger?

I cry.

32. Where is your second home?

I guess you could say it is in Idaho.  We have a house that we really really really want to sell up there.  Know anyone who wants a second home?

33. What were your favourite toys as a child?

My Little Ponies and Mini Cabage Patch kids.  My favorites: a blue pony I named Bluey and a mini plastic cabage patch named Pappy.  Don’t ask me how Pappy got her name, I don’t even remember.  I got her when I was 5 and did not lose her till I was 12.  Sometimes I wonder if I will ever find her in a crack at my parents house.  Where are you my friend Pappy?!

34. What was your favourite class in High School?

Orchestra, AP Music Theory, English.

35. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Again it depends on the context.  I have gotten into trouble for being too sarcastic with the wrong people so I tried to curb the habit.  I can’t rid myself completely though…

36. Favourite movies?

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Return to Me.  A Knight’s Tale.  Sabrina (the one with Harrison Ford).  Monte Pithon and the Quest for the Holy Grail.

37. What are your nicknames?

I hated the one in high school Gimpy.  I loved the one my Dad gave us all Sweet Pea.  In fact, I loved that one so much, its what I call my girls now.

38. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?

I actually avoid shoes that I have to tie.  It is pretty hard for me to bend over and get to my left shoe.  When I do wear shoes that tie, I usually just slip them off at the end of the day and throw them in the back of my closet swearing to not take them out again for at least a year.

39. Do you think that you are strong?

Ya, I think that life makes us all that way.

40. What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?

Dolce de Leche. Or Raspberry sherbert.  Depends on my mood.

41. What are your favourite colours?

Lavander and Navy.

42. Who do you miss the most?

My mothers father.  Grandpa.  I probably think of him at least three times a week.

[skipped an irrelevant question]

44. What colour pants are you wearing?

Tan slacks.

45. What are you listening to right now?

Suite for viola and small orchestra by Vaughan Williams.  I only have two months till the performance date people!

46. If you were a CRAYON what colour would you be?

White.  It is the one color that never gets used.  Just like if I were an ice cream flavor I would be vanilla.  Who chooses to eat vanilla?

47. Last person you talked to on the phone?

My neighbor.  Her daughter was throwing up, so she had to cancel the violin lesson this afternoon.

48. What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex?

Three of my sisters are hair dressers, so I have to admit that they have trained me well.  I notice the hair.  Followed by eyes.

49. Favourite drink?

Crystal Light Raspberry flavor.

50. Do you wear contacts?

No.  I wish I could get them again, but I can’t justify the expense.  It is about $100 an eye for mine because I have such a horrible stignatism.

51. Favourite day of the year?

My anniversary.

52. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings always.  SH made me watch Arlington Road with him once quite a few years ago.  I am still recovering from the fact that the bad guys won.  I also haven’t forgiven SH for making me watch it.

53. Summer or winter?

Spring.  I love the spring flowers and the promise of new life.  Not too hot, not too cold… spring is just right.

54. Hugs OR kisses?

From SH kisses.  From my girls hugs :-).

55. Favourite dessert?

lemon fluf.  A strange recipe of my mother’s but very tasty.

56. What’s on your mouse pad?

Water Droplets.

57. What did you watch last night on TV?

I had symphony practice last night.  I didn’t get home till almost 10:30 so I fell into bed feeling like I would go into an exhausted coma.

58. Michael Jackson or Kirk Franklin?

I am with Karen, who is Kirk Franklin?  I wouldn’t choose Michael for anything though, everything he touches ends up in scandal.

59. What’s the furthest you’ve been from home?

Canada.  🙂

60. When is the last time you have been to church?

Last weekend.
