I did it!

November 30, 2007

Finally, the last day of November is here! I have posted every single day for a month, it was fun, it was frustrating, it was rewarding, and sometimes it was beyond me to be profound in any way. The best part of it all is knowing that I accomplished something here. I set my mind and I did it.

By no means is this even remotely as cool as Julia’s novel she wrote this month, but it is the best I could do. I am proud, I changed my site’s look yet again, and I have prepared to continue writing. Just, not every single day…

My Day

November 28, 2007

Much happened today, yet none of it would interest you. I had such a busy day, starting with teaching my class this morning… been there, told you about that before. Ok, moving on. I came home from class, cleaned my room a bit, then taught three back to back violin lessons. Man was that hard. Seriously, ever try focusing on three kids that are not yours right in a row? When you are very tired, can’t focus, and definitely can’t stop coughing? Not easy.

I know, you are enthralled with my day so far. Alright, so where were we? Ah yes, eleven o’clock. That was when I rushed to get L ready to go, ran out the door, went to the bank, then met Sultry Husband at the sanctuary to take some pictures of animals. That part was actually pretty cool, but I can’t tell you about it because I refuse to scoop my own husband ūüėČ The stories we covered today will post in a few weeks, I will tell you then hehe.

Well, maybe just one little thing. Ever try to take a picture of a pot bellied pig doing something he doesn’t want to do? Trying to re-capture a moment in time that was amusing, yet being unable to do so? Well, that was my afternoon. After that, I ran home in time for M to get off the bus, taught a few more lessons, and made dinner.

So, can you tell me where I can get a post out of that? Oh wait, I did.

Bored yet? I am… NaBloPoMo

Mechanics and Masterminds

July 30, 2007

Wow. It has been over two years since I started blogging. I seriously can’t believe it has been that long. Where has the time gone? I decided that for a sort of anniversary thing for my blog world, I would re-post my very first entry. This was dated July 1, 2005. Man it is strange to be in such a different place than I was then. My writing style has changed much in two years, I hope for the better… without further ado, I give you:

Mechanics and Masterminds

It is amazing to think about all of the things that I don’t know. Car mechanics is one area in which I was never interested. Sure my Dad always demanded that I would check the fluids, but that is as far as I have ever wanted to go.

For the past four years we have had one car. It has been a good little car, very few breakdowns. I would remember to check the fluids often and I would get the oil changed every 3,000 miles or so. Just as we paid off the car, fate decided to throw a wrench into our plans to drive payment free.

While driving home from a family fishing trip, the car decided that it had gone far enough. Suddenly, it would go no further and we were stranded. The next day, we were informed that it was the alternator, battery, and belt. So, we had them all changed. A quick fix for a simple problem that happens to everyone.

That weekend we went to visit some family out of town. By the time we had driven the 3 hours to get there, the car decided once again that it had gone far enough. Sputtering and shuddering to a stop, we were stranded again. A different mechanic shop told us that it was the alternator. I informed him that we just had it replaced. He then told me that it must have been a bad one which “happens more often than you would think”. We changed the alternator.

On our way home, the car decided that it was tired of driving, so it gave up and came to a stop. This time, we took it to a dealership to attempt to find the problem. They said it was the alternator. Sound like a theme? It was. They changed the alternator. Before I would drive my little car any further, I demanded that they test it. The mechanic said that the third new alternator was not working… it must be the computer. So we asked them to fix it. While the computer was out of the car, he decided to check the wires to see if they were in good condition and found that someone, somewhere before we bought the car had “fixed” these wires with electrical tape. Which in the four years we have had it, wore itself out. Our new best friend changed these wires and discovered that low and behold, the computer and alternator were fine. The car was fixed and we can drive it again.

What did this experience teach me? That I know nothing about cars? I already knew that. What I learned was that I don’t have to feel bad that I know nothing about cars because I am in good company. Auto mechanics, those professionals who are supposed to know everything about the automobiles we drive, don’t know near as much as they think they do either. I want my money back.

June 22, 2007

I have created a shutterchance photoblog for myself.¬† I have hope that it will allow me to share my pictures with other photographers and receive honest feedback.¬† It is one thing to show the pictures to my husband who tells me how he loves them, it is another to hear things like “if you used a flash here, it would fix the lighting”.¬† I think that I need more of that latter, although praise is always welcome ūüôā

Check it out if you have a chance.

February 7, 2007

Sometimes when I would pop up on my blogger blog to check things, my sidebar would change.  I would get frustrated, mess with the HTML codes and fix the problem that I did not cause.  I thought that those days were behind me when I moved to wordpress.

Today as I looked at my site, I noticed something strange.¬† My blogroll had dissapeared.¬† I did not move it, the links are all still within my dashboard, but I can’t get them back onto the site that everyone else can view.¬† I enjoy having links to the sites I frequent… Do any of you have any idea where my blogroll went and how I get it back?¬† I have messed in my sidebar widgets, and it isn’t missing from the list… where oh where has my blogroll gone?

WordPress Comercial

January 10, 2007

I have to admit that I am having far too much fun for my own good with wordpress.¬† Before leaving blogger, I started to feel burned out with the blog.¬† I was bored with my theme yet it was such a pain to change that I didn’t want to bother.¬† Now, hehe one click and its all new!

The other thing I love about wordpress is the pages.¬† I can create pages to suit my mood, then erase them when I am done looking at them.¬† Anyway, I have created a new one, it is called “Family Life” where you all can see a small sample of what I like to do with photo’s.¬† I love that wordpress lets you host videos so easily!¬† So, it is a very short and condensed version of what I do.¬† I had to make the file size small enough for hosting, so the picture quality is definitely not where I like it to be.¬† Not to mention after I get the video to this point, I then create the whole DVD menu system to make it all pretty.¬† I can’t do that for the web, so you can just pretend that it exists ūüôā¬†

¬†So there you have it, WordPress rocks, Blogger stinks and I am so glad that I switched!¬† We now return you to your regularly scheduled programing…

Happy two hundert

January 5, 2007

This post, combined with my blogger posts makes my 200th.¬† Happy two hundert to me!¬† It is funny, but I was thinking about my whole reason for starting this blog.¬† I did it because I saw Heather’s blog and loved the idea of having conversations with other people about my thoughts.¬† I wanted to use it as a journal of sorts, a way to share the fun and amazing things my kids do and also to share my thoughts on life with people who may or may not have my same point of view.¬† I found that a typical journal felt stale to me and I had a hard time convincing myself to keep one.¬†

Now that I am here at wordpress, I am having much more fun updating and changing my site to fit my personality.  And true to my personality, I have decided to share an experience that I have not shared before with any of you.

We had been living in Scottsdale Arizona for a few months.  Our eldest daughter, M, was about 18 months old when we decided to go camping.  We had to drive about an hour or so because Scottsdale proper is not exactly what you would call a campers paradise.  We had all the gear, but we had not counted upon the screaming of our child.  Which happened to start up around midnight.  I tried all of the typical techniques to get her back to sleep, but she would have none of it.  I think she was just not used to the camping idea and here she was waking up in a strange place.

So, as I rocked her with an attempt to soothe the savage beast, our new puppy Phnarph became concerned.  He was also sleeping in our tent with us because he was so small and we thought it would be fun.  The puppy worked his way over to me to check out the trouble.  As I shooed him away, he became scared and wet all over me and my sleeping bag!

It was the last straw and we hopped  into our car to drive home.  At 2 am.  Leaving all of our things in the woods.  Sultry Husband drove up again the next day to take down our camp, while I stayed home to take a nap.

I know that I have shared similar camping stories before, but never that one.¬† As I thought about it and the possibility of sharing it for my two hundredth post, I thought about how upset I felt at the time.¬† I was embarrassed that our fellow campers had to hear my screaming child followed by our leaving, I was also upset that we didn’t get to enjoy our camping trip as we planned.¬† That is the joy of a¬†journal or blog, we can write about things that are¬†embarrassing or upsetting and somewhere along the road of sharing, we learn to look¬†back and laugh a little at the situations.¬†

Most of all, I want to say thank you to all of the friends I have made along the way of my journey through the blog world.¬† I¬†may not have a huge following, but I enjoy the connection with each¬†and every one of you.¬†¬†New friends, old friends, family members, it doesn’t matter.¬† I have someone to share my innermost thoughts with, and that is an awesome feeling.¬†
