The Missing Day
January 9, 2008I keep asking myself if yesterday really happened. Somehow I know it did, but ah well, I have to account to you what happened.
Sunday I was put into the Primary Presidency at church. I am first counselor. What does this have to do with a missing day you ask? Plenty. The president had been sick with the flu for four days, but as it was our first week as a presidency, she didn’t feel like she could abandon us, so she came.
Monday I woke up with a horrible head-ache. I didn’t keep anything down, but I attributed it all to Pregnancy and kept moving along with my day. It snowed all day long on Monday, so we decided to go sledding as a family that evening. We ate our dinner on the road up to the hills, and by the time we got there, I lost it all. Again I thought it was just pregnancy. So, I did the only sensible thing and walked/slid all the way up to the top of the hills to slide down with my family. Once I hit the top though, I felt horrible, so I just stood there in the cold watching them have fun.
Afterwards though, I threw up twice on the way home. I started wondering if this was more than the kid knocking around in there. I went to bed early, hoping that I could kick whatever this was in my system. By midnight, I was throwing up every ten minutes. Off to the emergency room we went. The poor girls had to just come with us, it is kinda’ hard to find a babysitter at midnight. Well, I know some people that would have taken them, but I really wasn’t up for calling anyone, and SH just bundled them up in the car and off we went. Fun times, let me tell you. There was a waiting room where SH put them with blankets. They sort of slept fitfully, but it was a terrible night for all of us.
We finally walked out of the ER at 7 am. Yes, that was right 7 am. They confirmed that it was a terrible case of the flu, and that they were glad that I came in because I was extremely dehydrated, which always worries people if you are pregnant. Home we went, and I slept till 3 or so in the afternoon. At which point I dragged myself out to the couch to stare at the wall for a few hours. Then it was off to bed.
This morning I feel much better, but I still feel like I was run over by a huge truck. The funny part to all of this though was that when SH got up this morning, he noticed that it snowed last night. He said “oh, it snowed two days in a row”. Um, no there was a day in between there somewhere. I think.

Oh no! I hope you are feeling better. Midnight trips to the ER are not fun. Throwing up is not fun. Luckily you were able to sleep, even if you did lose a day in the process.
What a bummer! I hope you are feeling better soon!
Urgh! I got the flu once while in the middle of being pregnant (with all the morning sickness). Ches thought I wan’t really sick because I threw up all the time anyway, but I had to insist to him that this was different. He finally believed me, once I got a high fever, that is.
I don’t know if I should laugh at this post or not, but I think the “missing day” part is really funny.
Keep resting and get well!! Drink that water!!
Oh how awful. Sorry April. Hope you feel better soon.
I’m glad you’re feeling better. Yes, they do take seriously a pregnant woman who is dehydrated, don’t they?
Ugh – its been a while since you wrote this (I have been terribly neglect in reading lately) and I hope that you are well recovered and that things are going really well.
